Project 1 - Fundamental Insight
A large majority of our work is motivated by gaining a deeper understanding of learning and memory mechanisms by focusing on highly conserved forms of learning, such as habituation, that are relevant across all species and foundational to cognition.
We are also translating our fundamental insights into benefits for human health, by determining how known causes of brain disorders affect plasticity, and by revealing the core mechanisms of useful but poorly understood phenomena measured in the clinic.
We are heavily engaged in education, not just for university undergraduates and post-graduates, but also in outreach to schools. In particular, we aim to use our understanding of the biology of learning to improve how people learn.
